Iranian community in Istanbul is one of the most dynamic and active ones. It is also one of the most open and generous communities. Iranian dinners welcome all people from different cultures with amazing Iranian dishes served in abundance. There are gatherings, performances, music events, hosted by families in their homes, in Iranian cafes in Kadıköy and other places.
After the recent decline of the political situation in the Middle East many Iranian friends had to leave Istanbul. It has become very difficult to get Turkish residency. Istanbul became home for many people who cannot come to their countries because of wars and repressions. Many had to face danger, fear and the unknown, leaving Istanbul. Farnaz graciously shares her reflections on the feeling of home and inspires many of us not to loose heart during these times, and find poetry in the life wherever we may be.
